Advice like this was actually one of the main reasons I created this site. I have absolutely no info in this area, and unsurpringly as this is definitely not advisable. Now to start, I want to make this clear that the best option is to NOT drink and drive. There are far too many options these days such as uber and lyft that can quickly and easily get you back to your home safely and legally.
Now, that being said, we all know that this just simply doesn't happen at all times. Men are normally expected to be able to drive, and if your game was good that night then chances are you're going to want to take that cute girl back to your house. Timing is everything with women, and driving your car is going to seem like a pretty good option especially when your buzzing and you're other head is thinking.
Below are a list of things that you should do and should carry at all times when at the bars.
Tip 1. Use a breathalyzer. You 100% want to have this in your car at all times, this always help gauge how toasted you are. If you are .2 and over it is definitely advisable that you do not proceed to drive as that is too toasty of a level of inebriation to adhere to this advice properly. Using a breathalyzer is for your mental state of mind. Obviously you will be above .08, but it will help you check yourself and drive more carefully knowing the exact number and remembering clearly that you are above the limit.
Tip 2. Follow the rules of the road. This is perhaps the most important. Too many times have we heard stories from those that have DUIs that it was because they got pulled over for speeding or a broken headlight. Make sure your car is 100% legal for the road. This may seem like common sense but as historical statistics prove, common sense is not very common at all. Just watch a few episodes of Live PD and your bound to find a recidivist criminal get pulled over for speeding or expired tags while he/she is intoxicated or carrying narcotics. It makes absolutely no sense to draw attention to yourself while you are already breaking the law. I think I've made this point clear enough.
Step 3. Stickers and situational parking. As a general rule of thumb you do not want to park directly in front of a bar. For one, you run the risk of your vehicle being tampered with or hit by some unknown drunk leaving the bar. Ive personally seem quite a few fender benders just in the immediate parking lot outside the bar. Secondly, you don't want to be associated with the bar when you are leaving. While police entrapment is technically illegal and they aren't supposed to follow you directly out of a bar, it still occurs time and time again. I am no exception. Also try and load your car up with lyft or uber stickers if you know a friend that works for one of the companies. This will give the illusion that you are actually working and picking someone up form the bar rather than being the druink guy/gal behind the wheel.
Tip 4. Don't close down the bar. Ever heard the expression nothing good happens after 10? Well the later into the night, the more the cops assume you are sitting there drinking, and they are usually right. by 2 am unless you stopped drinking earlier on, you are probably pretty hammered. You do want to stop drinking ideally 10-15 minutes prior to driving though, so that the breathalyzer will give a more accurate reading and you will also be able to gauge how far you are going up on the buzz meter.
Tip 5. Snacks and Pills. By now cops are very familiar with the age-old gum trick, which doesn't work anyway. The reason food and gum doesn't work is because the alcohol isn't just on your breath, its in your blood stream. Every time you breathe out, alcohol can be smelled, some more than others. Plus, chewing on gum is extremely obvious, especially if you are pulled over anywhere near a bar. Carry snacks not so much for your breath, but so that you can sober up a bit. Plus the smell of food is less obvious and makes more sense, as many bars serve food with liquor. While the snacks won't necessarily lower your blood alcohol levels, it will help in bringing you back to a slighly more soberish state.
Now for the pills. Be sure to always carry a handy bottle of charcoal pills. This is not some sort of voodoo magic routine, this is proven science. Charcoal is often given to patients who overdose on toxic substances. It acts like a sponger and absorbs harmful toxins, aka alcohol. This will help generously in your fast attempts to sober up, and is also good for alcohol breath. These pills can be found at most grocery stores in the vitamins and supplements aisle.
